⚠ Not an official IWF or IOC resource

Third Attempt Stats is an independent fan project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way connected to the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), any national federation, or any athlete's management. For official results, records, and announcements, visit iwf.sport.

1. What This Site Is

Third Attempt Stats is a personal data-journalism project built by one person (Long Nguyen) for fans, coaches, and athletes who want to explore Olympic weightlifting statistics beyond the raw results table. Think of it as the Stathead or FiveThirtyEight of the sport — analysis, trends, and context, not an official record-keeper.

The site is not a commercial product. It does not generate revenue, carry advertising, or sell any goods or services. It is freely accessible to anyone.

2. Data Sources & Accuracy

Competition results and world records displayed on this site are sourced from:

  • The IWF public results pages at iwf.sport
  • Wikipedia's Olympic weightlifting world records articles

Data is collected via automated scraping of publicly accessible web pages and is periodically refreshed. It may be:

  • Out of date — results from very recent competitions may not yet be imported
  • Incomplete — not all historical competitions are in the database
  • Inaccurate — parsing errors, source typos, or IWF data corrections can introduce mistakes
  • Superseded — a record may have been ratified, amended, or stripped since the last crawl

Do not use this site as an authoritative source for competition decisions, athlete selection, records verification, or any purpose where accuracy is consequential. Always verify against official IWF publications.

3. Copyright & Data Rights

Competition results — athlete names, rankings, and performance figures recorded at public sporting events — are factual data. Facts themselves are generally not protected by copyright. However, the IWF and related bodies may assert rights over the specific presentation, database compilations, or supplementary content on their websites.

This site:

  • Reproduces only factual performance data (names, weights lifted, rankings, world record figures)
  • Does not reproduce IWF-authored text, images, logos, or branding
  • Does not replicate or redistribute entire database dumps from IWF systems
  • Attributes all data to its public sources

The IWF name and associated marks are property of the International Weightlifting Federation. The IOC name and Olympic marks are property of the International Olympic Committee. Use of these names on this site is purely referential and descriptive — to identify the sport and events covered — and does not imply any sponsorship, endorsement, or affiliation.

If you represent the IWF, an athlete, or another rights holder and have a concern about specific content, please get in touch at newt.tyke-4e@icloud.com. Legitimate requests will be addressed promptly.

4. Athlete Privacy & Personal Data

This site displays personal data about athletes including:

  • Full names and nationalities
  • Competition bodyweights
  • Date of birth (where present in IWF source data)
  • Individual lift attempts and results

All of this information was disclosed when athletes competed at official international competitions whose results were published publicly by the IWF. Competition results are public sporting records — their publication by the IWF is a standard and expected part of competitive sport at this level.

This site does not create user accounts and does not use advertising trackers or third-party marketing pixels. However, it does use two Vercel tools that collect anonymised visitor analytics:

  • Vercel Analytics — records page views, referrer, browser, OS, device type, and country. No cookies are set; data is stored on Vercel's servers.
  • Vercel Speed Insights — records Core Web Vitals (page load performance) per page visit and transmits them to Vercel.

Both tools are cookie-free and do not track individuals across sessions or sites. For details on how Vercel processes this data, see Vercel's Privacy Policy.

For EU/EEA athletes (GDPR): The legal basis for displaying athlete competition data is legitimate interest in the analysis and reporting of public sporting records. If you are an athlete and wish to request correction or removal of your data from this site, contact newt.tyke-4e@icloud.com.

5. No Warranty & Limitation of Liability

This site is provided "as is" without any warranty, express or implied. No guarantee is made that the site will be available at any given time, that the data is accurate or complete, or that the site is free of errors.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the operator of this site shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of — or reliance on — information displayed here.
